Syria’s Rice Ceremony — A Baby’s First Rice
Some firsts get a cake. This one gets a feast. A rice ceremony — annaprashan — celebrates a baby’s first taste of solid food, and Syria’s family marked it on April 10, 2026, with a hall full of color, food, and people who adore her.

The Ceremony
Syria wore red and gold for the ritual, a red cloth draped over her head, seated at a table crowded with thalis — small bowls of rice, curries, fruits, and sweets. Then the family took turns: her father, in a purple kurta, first among them, followed by mothers, aunties, and grandparents, each offering a spoonful with a blessing. It is a simple act, repeated with enormous tenderness, and it carries the whole meaning of the day: this child will never face the world unfed or unloved.

Color Everywhere
The portraits were made against pink and purple drapes hung with floral garlands, and the family matched the backdrop — saris in red, orange, pink, green, and purple, kurtas in cream and blue. Syria changed into an orange dress with gold accents for her solo portraits, composed and curious, already entirely at home in front of a crowd.

The Milestones Between the Weddings
